Big Blue
Earth - Die Story:
On December 31, 2002, The Mary Baker
Eddy Library hosted the world premiere of Big Blue Earth, a collaborative musical
project that brings together a cappella harmonies and elements of world music
created by both professional musicians and community singers from Boston and
New York City.
Springing from the pure voice of a four-year-old child and gathering voices from
distant parts of the globe, Big Blue Earth shares a message about global community,
peace, and building bridges - affirming the simple yet profound notion that we
are all one family.
You can listen to and share the message of Big Blue Earth by accessing the MP3 below.
On special occasions, a five-minute Big Blue Earth program, including synchronized light show, is featured in the Library's Mapparium.
The Library's creative team envisions Big Blue Earth as the title track of a much more expansive CD recording. We are currently seeking the talents of other musical artists to record songs, perhaps inside the Mapparium, on the theme of global community. We are also looking for partnerships with childrens' organizations, through which proceeds from CD sales may be donated to benefit the children of our community and the world.
If you are interested in working with the Library on these or related Big Blue Earth initiatives, or would like further information, please send an e-mail to bigblueearth@marybakereddylibrary.org or call Chet Manchester at 1-617-450-7102.
Big Blue Earth, originally recorded in the unique acoustical environment of the Mapparium, was produced by Peter Link and Walter Robinson, and it includes vocals by four year-old Isaiah Brackman and acclaimed singer-songwriter Mindy Jostyn, as well as flute and vocals by Cornelius Bumpus, best known as a member of the Doobie Brothers. The song's lyrics were written by the Library's Creative Director, Chet Manchester, together with Mindy Jostyn and Jacob Brackman.
Big Blue Earth(Chorus)
Big blue earth, deep blue sea
I see you, you see me
Land to land, place to place
Here we stand, face to face
I am you, you are me
All one world, one family
Verse 1
See our precious world, how bright it shines
See the light come shining back at me
Let us build a bridge now, over time
Over rivers wide, across the sea
(Chorus)
Verse 2
We shall build a bridge so wide and strong
See our children crossing, hand in hand
Hear their happy voices, raised in song
For our dream of peace in every land
(Chorus)
One Family
One Family
One Family
